Light from darkness

Allah is the Light of the heavens and the earth.

I am at present  absorbed in some massive optical investigations that will incontrovertibly  establish the origin of light. Life on the earth started together with the fiat lux of Genesis. But where did lux come from? Genesis explains it came out of darkness. Certainly, in nature we can find many traces of what the Creator did when starting his job. The real challenge is to find them.

And God said “Let there be light”. Then there was light.  Even so, you certainly wonder what kind of stuff light was. And Genesis goes on saying: “God began to divide the light from the darkness”. Thus light and darkness were made from  the same stuff, in such a way that darkness was the matrix but light  the daughter.

What are light  and shadow? Poets and writers have sometimes understood what physicists did not.

So let’s say  that light is coming out of dark. Dark matter and dark energy  are said to be more than the 90 % of the universe. What does it mean?

The great majority of ordinary matter in the universe is also unseen. Visible stars and gas inside galaxies and clusters account for less than 10% of the ordinary matter contribution to the mass-energy density of the universe. There is a lot of non-luminous matter in the outskirts of the galaxy (“dark matter”). Wikipedia

At the very beginning of creation there were the earth and the skies and the watery deep, and they were motionless. Then the space started to be divided among the differently directed movements originated by the electromagnetic fields of forces, and darkness was everywhere. Finally light came out. Shadow was the matrix and thick gloom is the place where God is said to reside.(2 Chronicles 6:1)

Thus, umbra was not simply absence of light but the whole. The sum of night and day was called darkness.

“And there was darkness upon the surface of the watery deep and God’s active force was moving about over the surface of the waters”.

Think to the movements of the waves in a lake. It’s water oscillating upward and downward. Water was already there before, but still and motionless. Then movement started. Suddenly you could perceive waves moving on the surface. Movement only can generate waves. What happened? Water particles started behaving  like waves. Similarly the sky ether was made up of subtle particles dormant in the darkness. No movement before. Then light appeared as the result of movement. A somewhat undulatory motion originated, stressing  the particles dormant in the dark sky, in the dark water. It was a movement generated by a field of forces. Here you come to understand the double nature of light: the corpuscular nature inside the dormant darkness and the undulatory  nature coming out of movement. This was light.

God created light only because there was darkness.


Similarly, some organisms may travel dormant for an extended amount of time. One of the main ingredients for life, as we know, is liquid water. And watery chaos was there at the very beginning. Astrophysicists know  since the early 1970s  that interstellar dust consists of a large component of organic molecules.fro Ancient Greek πᾶν (pan), meaning “all”, and σπέρμα (sperm meaning “seed”) is the hypothesis that life exists throughout the Universe. Under certain ideal it  On the ideal circumstances (into a body of water, for example), and ideal surrounding conditions, it was possible that the dormant organisms could become active and begin to colonize their new environment.

Panspermia is a Greek word that translates literally as “seeds everywhere”. The panspermia hypothesis states that the “seeds” of life exist all over the Universe and can be propagated through space from one location to another. Some believe that life on Earth may have originated through these “seeds”.

The first known mention of this concept was in the writings of the Greek philosopher Anaxagoras (500 BC – 428 BC):

All things have existed from the beginning. But originally they existed in infinitesimally small fragments of themselves, endless in number and inextricably combined. All things existed in this mass, but in a confused and indistinguishable form. There were the seeds (spermata) or miniatures of wheat and flesh and gold in the primitive mixture; but these parts, of like nature with their wholes, had to be eliminated from the complex mass before they could receive a definite name and character.  

There are many evidences  suggesting  that bacteria can survive  for long periods of time  in the deep space. Bacteria were found in the  earth’s atmosphere at an altitude higher than 40 kilometers, that is to say an altitude  where the blending  with the lower layers is unlikely.

A consequence of panspermia is that life in all the universe should have a similar biochemistry, which is in harmony with the isotropy pattern that is manifest everywhere in the cosmos. Bacteria and more complex organisms  were found in the most extreme environments, for instance in the deep sea fumaroles, or inside thermal hot pools or geyser basins.

For instance, the vivid colors in the hot waters of the Grand Prismatic Spring in Yellowstone National Park are the result of microbial mats around the edges of the mineral-rich water. The center of the pool is sterile due to extreme heat.

Some extremophile bacteria, lichens, spores, and even the tiny tardigrades, all were found to have survived the harsh outer space environment and cosmic radiation.

Tardigrada have been found everywhere: from mountaintops to the deep sea and mud volcanoes; from tropical rain forests to the Antarctic. Some tardigrades can withstand extremely cold temperatures down to 1 K  or −272 °C, close to absolute zero, while others can withstand extremely hot temperatures up to 420 K, pressures about six times greater than those found in the deepest ocean trenches, ionizing radiation at doses hundreds of times higher than the lethal dose for a human, and the vacuum of outer space. They can go without food or water for more than 30 years, drying out only to rehydrate, forage, and reproduce.

Since the discovery of evidence for liquid water in the deep space and on  the surface of the  moon, substantial quantities of it are now thought to be present outside the circumstellar  zone. The concept of deep biospheres like Earth’s ones are now generally accepted in astrobiology, given the large amount of liquid water known to exist within the Solar System. And all this is not in contrast with the existence of a watery moving layer inside the middle of the dome sealing the exterior limits of the earth.

As a conclusion, the original watery darkness was full of light photons, dormant bacteria, and maybe DNA of many living creatures waiting to come into life.
